Wind Buffets Area; Snow Possible This Weekend

NWS Paducah

Sunday's windstorm caused scattered power outages

Strong, gusty winds brought down trees. tree limbs, and utility poles in the Tri-State on Sunday. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The high winds caused scattered power outages, especially Sunday morning after the National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory.

The agency recorded a wind gust of 35 miles an hour at about 10:00 Sunday morning, but higher gusts were likely across the Tri-State.

During the windstorm, a tree fell across N. Green River Road, just north of State Road 57 blocking the roadway and knocking out power in the area.

The wind brought in slightly cooler air but colder conditions and chances for rain and snow are in the forecast for the first few days of 2025.

The temperature on New Year’s Day is expected to stay in the 30’s and by the weekend, we see chances for snow and a mixture of rain and snow.

It’s too soon to predict the impact of the weekend system but forecasters will keep an eye on it.
