Driver Captured After 32-mile Chase On I-69

File

It started in Vanderburgh County and ended in Daviess County, Indiana

A man faces numerous charges after allegedly leading police on a 32-mile chase on I-69. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Indiana State Police say a trooper was patrolling the interstate in northeastern Vanderburgh County Thursday afternoon when he attempted to stop the driver of a Penske truck for a lane violation.

The ISP says the driver also failed to maintain its lane causing a coal truck to swerve onto the shoulder.

Police say the driver of the Penske truck refused to stop and continued northbound at speeds reaching 70 mph.

Officers placed stop sticks on the highway near Oakland City but the driver was able to avoid them.

A second set of stop sticks were deployed in Pike County and the driver hit them -- but was able to continue north on I-69 into Daviess County.

The driver eventually lost control near the 53 mile-marker when he swerved to attempt to avoid another set of stop sticks.

The ISP says the truck fell onto its side and the driver was taken into custody.

He was identified as 24-year-old Brice Alkema of Indianapolis.

Police say a search of the truck revealed a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Alkema faces charges including Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Meth and Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated.
