There’s no word yet on what sparked a fire that damaged a popular Haynie’s Corner restaurant. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
Evansville Fire Department Deputy Chief of Administration Kim Garrett says the amount of damage and debris from the Christmas Day fire at Sauced will delay determining the cause of the blaze.
Garrett does say there does not appear to be any criminal activity.
Crews were dispatched to the restaurant on Parrett Street at about 4:45 Wednesday afternoon and found flames coming from the second floor of the building.
Garrett says firefighters went inside the burning building to search for possible occupants and they found none.
About ten minutes after arriving, crews were ordered out of the building due to concern of a possible collapse.
A second alarm was dispatched about a half-hour after the first call.
Crews tapped out the fire by 7 p.m.
Along with the restaurant, the building contains four apartments.
No injuries were reported but one resident was displaced.
It’s not clear if the century-old building can be saved.
A commercial renovation team was on the scene Thursday morning.
