Former Trustee Sentenced to Probation

Former Pigeon Township Trustee Mariama Wilson

Former Pigeon Trustee Mariama Wilson will avoid prison time

Former Pigeon Township Trustee Mariama Wilson has been spared jail time after pleading guilty to wire fraud. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Federal Judge Matthew Brookman sentenced the 52-year-old Wilson to three years of probation.

She was charged in 2023 of defrauding the township of $38,000 in a kickback scheme.

Wilson later pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and the state dismissed four other charges against her.

Judge Brookman ordered Wilson to repay the $38,000.

He cited her lack of a criminal history and her responsibility to her son and grandchild as reasons not to send her to prison.

Wilson admitted to conspiring with her employee William Payne and construction contractor Terrance Hardiman to inflate the costs of repairs to township properties.

Hardiman has been sentenced to six months in prison. Payne is due in court next month.
