A Georgia man is dead after being hit by numerous vehicles on Evansville’s East Side. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Central Dispatch received reports of a pedestrian being struck on southbound I-69, just north of the Lloyd Expressway, early Saturday morning.
Evansville Police say officers discovered the man lying in the roadway, with four vehicles stopped on the shoulder.
The EPD’s Taylor Merriss says one of the drivers stopped after striking the pedestrian, while two other vehicles had inadvertently run over the victim.
A fourth vehicle, a GMC pickup truck, was located nearby, unoccupied but running.
This vehicle was registered to the pedestrian, 32-year-old Dennis Copeland of Appling, Georgia.
Initial findings suggest that Copeland had stopped to relieve himself on the side of the road before crossing the median and being hit by a southbound vehicle.
The driver who initially struck Copeland was taken to a local hospital for a standard blood draw.
Copeland was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy was scheduled for today (Mon).
An investigation continues.
