Some Evansville firefighters were inside the Bally’s Convention Center on Monday when an SUV came crashing through the roof. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The vehicle broke through a barrier on the top floor of the casino’s parking garage, went airborne, crashed through a roof, and landed upside down on escalators next to the Conference Center.
Fire Department Deputy Chief Kim Garrett says some local firefighters happened to be inside:
"It was an inspection and company — a sprinkler, I believe company — that was having a conference today. Some Evansville firefighters were in there? Yeah."
Garrett says the firefighters quickly assisted the driver and nobody was injured inside Bally’s.
It’s still not clear why the man drove off the seven-story parking garage.
Bally’s has said it was apparently caused by “driver error” and that there are no signage or structural issues with the garage.
The casino company says the safety of its guests and staff remains the “top priority."
