Drivers can expect increased law enforcement and sobriety checkpoints

Thanksgiving is more than a week away but police agencies are launching holiday patrols, starting this weekend. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says its increased patrols focus on curbing impaired and aggressive driving, enforcing seat belt use, and sobriety checkpoints.

The overtime effort is funded by federal grants distributed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Sheriff Noah Robinson says if you plan to drink, make sure you also plan your way home.

Robinson says secure a sober ride in advance so you can “enjoy your evening without concern for transportation afterward.”

The Evansville Police Department is also ramping up patrols as part of the annual Safe Family Travel campaign

Justice Institute officials remind drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, buckle up, and check road conditions before you get behind the wheel.
