The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about legal payment scams. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:
The sheriff’s office says it receives daily reports of scam attempts, and while the details may vary, the outcome is always the same: scammers try to steal your money.
Authorities remind everyone that no one from the Sheriff's Office will call asking for money to resolve a legal issue or request that you purchase a gift card for payment.
To avoid being scammed, authorities say never give personally identifiable information over the phone, do not agree to meet a caller in-person, and frequently check bank statements and credit reports for possible fraud.
If you believe you’ve fallen victim to a scam in Vanderburgh County, you’re urged to call 812-421-6200.
