Explore Evansville is looking for a new leader. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The tourism group has announced that President and CEO Alexis Berggren will step down at the end of the year to pursue a new opportunity in North Carolina.
Berggren will work for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, and serve as General Manager of the Charlotte Convention Center.
Explore Evansville says Berggren has been a driving force behind many of the organization's significant accomplishments, attracting more than 350,000 visitors and generating more than $69 million in economic impact in less than three years.
The group notes under Berggren’s leadership, Explore Evansville welcomed riverboats back to the city, expanded the Evansville Sports Complex by more than 100 acres and successfully hosted milestone events, like the first-ever IHSAA Wrestling State Championship in Evansville and the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, which drew tens of thousands of visitors to the region.
Prior to her appointment as CEO, Berggren served on the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board of Commissioners and worked as General Manager of Old National Events Plaza.
