St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville is among 17 churches across the state receiving grants from Indiana Landmarks. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The organization is distributing more than $2.4 million for capital projects at houses of worship in Indiana.
A 200-thousand dollar grant will replace the heating and cooling system’s air handler at St Ben’s.
The church on Lincoln Avenue opened in 1927.
A 150-thousand dollar grant is headed to Sisters of Providence in Terre Haute for a new fire suppression system in the 1891 Church of the Immaculate Conception at the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods campus.
The remaining historic churches receiving grants include a half dozen in Indianapolis.
The awards mark the second round of grants since the fund was established last year with support from the Lilly Endowment.
