Area law enforcement leaders will present a session on community policing at the International Chiefs of Police conference

Area law enforcement leaders are headed to Boston for the International Chiefs of Police Conference. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith, EPD Special Projects Coordinator Taylor Merriss, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson, and Henderson Police Chief – and former Evansville chief -- Billy Bolin will present a workshop titled Community Policing: Where Everybody Knows Your Name.

Tying in with the Boston theme, they’ll discuss what’s at the core of community policing: engaging with communities to build and establish mutual trust.

Real-world examples will be discussed on how to connect with both the community and media though the use of public outreach, social media, and traditional media.

Merriss says you may notice some unusual posts on the department’s social media during the IACP conference.

She was selected to serve as a Social Media Ambassador during this weekend’s event.
