The new system is described as a "huge upgrade for bus riders"

If you want to catch a METS bus, there will soon be a new app for that. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Board of Public Works has approved a new transit app and bus tracking system for the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System.

Mayor Terry’s office says the app will allow residents to see new information about their route and also see which connecting stops they need to take and how busy their bus will be.

The system also will let passengers see real time information, including updates on closures, detours, and bus arrival times.

The current app for METS buses is being sunset by the owner at the end of 2024.

The new app goes live January 2nd.

Evansville’s Director of Transportation & Services Todd Robertson calls the new app a “huge upgrade for our riders.”

He also says it will help the city be more efficient in building bus routes that people need.

Along with the app, the new system also includes audio and visual announcements on each bus, and passengers can enable notifications on their phone that will tell them when their bus stop is approaching.
