The regional group helps victims of sexual assault

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers is now leading the regional Sexual Assault Response Team. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The team, known as SART, serves Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, and Gibson counties.

Prior to the change, Albion Fellows Bacon Center in Evansville led the regional group.

Prosecutor Moers says statutory requirements dictate the county prosecutor lead the agency.

The SART team consists of representatives from Prosecution, Law Enforcement, Indiana State Police Forensics Lab, Advocacy Services, Medical Services and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners.

Moers says her goal is to work with a “great team of trained professionals to increase public awareness of available resources in the region for victims of sex crimes.

She also wants to “increase communication between each discipline who works to respond to sexual assault reports and serve victims, and conduct regular case reviews to identify gaps and increase effectiveness in response protocol.”

More information on available resources for crime victims can be found here.
