EPD: The 15-year-old made up the story of a man trying to abduct her

Evansville Police have arrested a 15-year-old girl accused of falsely reporting an attempted abduction. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The EPD says the girl told a school resource officer that a man she didn’t know approached her and grabbed her by the arms.

Police say the juvenile advised that she pulled away and was able to run away from the man after she sprayed him with pepper spray.

Detectives began interviews, canvassing the neighborhood for cameras, and going door to door in the neighborhood.

The EPD says investigators obtained surveillance video that contradicted the juvenile’s statements.

When detectives interviewed the juvenile and her parent again, police said she admitted she lied about the attempted abduction.

The 15-year-old said she made the story up because she was dared to by a friend.

The juvenile was charged with false informing and placed in a juvenile detention facility.
