The Evansville Police Department says it’s increased its presence in and around schools because of social media threats. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The EPD says it’s aware of recent threats of school violence that have been circulating nationally and locally.
The department says screenshots and “snapchats” that get forwarded makes it difficult to locate the origin of the post or statement, but numerous states and schools have been named in the threats.
The EPD says it takes any type of threat to schools seriously, even though it may be vague and trending across the country.
The department asks parents to talk to their children about the importance of social media responsibility and accountability.
Police also ask parents to monitor your children’s social media and discuss the dangers and potential consequences of posting and spreading threats.
Meanwhile, the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office says it’s investigating a verbal threat that was made to a school today on Thursday
