Evansville set a heat record on Thursday. And as WNIN’s John Gibson reports, some badly needed rain is expected this holiday weekend:
The mercury hit 101 degrees at Evansville Regional Airport Thursday afternoon.
It was the highest temperature of the summer and broke a nearly century-old record.
The intense heat is expected to give way to higher humidity, rain and potentially strong thunderstorms -- starting as soon as this (Fri) afternoon.
The National Weather Service says heavy rain and lightning will be the primary hazards.
The last measurable rain fell in Evansville on August 2nd.
