Woman Accused of Fabricating Assault Arrested

File

Megan Cooper, 34, of Henderson is accused of lying about a kidnapping and assault in Evansville's Wesselman Park

The Henderson woman accused of fabricating a story of kidnapping and sexual assault in an Evansville park is under arrest. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

34-year-old Megan Cooper was arrested in Henderson and is awaiting extradition to Evansville.

She faces charges of obstruction of justice and false informing.

The EPD says detectives began to realize that Cooper was not being honest about the alleged incident in Wesselman Park.

They say business cameras captured her buying or stealing the items and materials that she was bound in.

Police also learned that Cooper was listed as a victim in numerous kidnapping and sexual assault reports in Kentucky and a suspect was never identified.

The EPD says Cooper eventually admitted she lied about the events in the park and a judge issued an arrest warrant for her.

Police note that for a large portion of July, officers, outside agencies, and organizations invested time and energy in a case that Cooper allegedly fabricated.
