Evansville Police are looking for a woman accused of lying about an alleged sexual assault. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The EPD says 34-year-old Megan Cooper of Henderson told police she was bound inside her vehicle and assaulted at Wesselman Park in July.
Police say at the time, the investigation appeared to be factual.
Detectives later determined that several pieces of information showed Cooper was being dishonest.
They say business cameras recorded Cooper buying or stealing the items and materials that she was bound in.
Police also learned that Cooper was listed as a victim in numerous kidnapping and sexual assault reports in Kentucky and a suspect was never identified.
The EPD says Cooper eventually admitted she lied about the events in Wesselman Park.
Sgt. Trudy Day says investigators never want to discredit a victim’s statement of any crime, but in this case the alleged victim became the offender.
Cooper faces charges of Obstruction of Justice and False Informing.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact police.
More: Police say for a large portion of July, officers, outside agencies and organizations invested time and energy in a probe that Cooper fabricated.
