Officials say the twister formed east of Evansville Regional Airport

Officials say it was an EF-1 tornado that formed in Vanderburgh County and left a trail of damage in Warrick County. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The National Weather Service says the twister formed east of Evansville Regional Airport at 6:30 Tuesday evening.

The agency says it crossed I-69 and entered Warrick County.

Officials say the twister was on the ground for more than eleven miles and at its peak was 300 yards wide with an estimated wind of 110 miles an hour.

The tornado lifted in the Victoria Hills area.

The weather service says most of the damage was caused by downed trees and limbs – some of which fell onto homes, especially along Telephone Road to Fuquay Road.

There were no reports of injuries.

Warrick County Commissioners have declared a disaster in the county.

They say the top priority is opening roads, and then the Highway Department will pick up and dispose of vegetation debris placed within 10 feet of the edge of roadways next week.

Officials ask that the vegetation be no longer than 8 feet and have a diameter of two feet or less.
