Attorney Anthony Young told a local TV station that the ISP investigation was "abysmal"

The Indiana State Police is standing by its investigation of Warrick County government, after comments made by a defense attorney. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Longtime attorney Anthony Long says his client, Warrick County Interim Health Administrator Marlin Weisheit, should have Misconduct and Conversion charges against him dropped.

Long also told WFIE TV that officials should apologize to Weisheit for the “humiliation” he’s endured.

But the ISP says it stands by the integrity of the investigation completed by Sergeant Brock Werne, a 17-year veteran of the force.

State Police say Werne has “represented countless victims of crimes and has sought to hold those responsible accountable for their criminal actions.”

The ISP says Long is trying to “create distrust and speculation” and police will not comment further.

Weisheit is accused of using former Health Board Officer Dr. Rick Yeager’s signature stamp without his knowledge and authorizing $9,600 in pay for himself.

Warrick County Commissioners later declared the transfer of funds an error.

The three commissioners – all Republicans -- face charges in the probe and two of them were defeated in the May primary.
