Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb says he’s focusing on his remaining days in office and not the ongoing gubernatorial campaign. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
Holcomb appeared on WNIN TV’s Shively and Shoulders program, where he was asked why he didn’t endorse a candidate during the May primary, in which his Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch sought the nomination:
"I've kind of felt like that might hinder their ability to be liberated, to be critical of me by the way, which some of them took that liberty. And so be it, that's a campaign. But I'm in an official office right now and I want to remain focused on my job."
U.S. Senator Mike Braun won the nomination but his pick for running mate was narrowly rejected by delegates at the state Republican convention.
Holcomb didn’t attend the event:
"I think the convention rightly should be all about the future. I'm about the present, for sure, and the past and soon — 208 days — all about the past. But I wanted it to be forward looking."
GOP delegates chose conservative pastor Micah Beckwith as Braun’s running mate.
Braun faces Democrat Jennifer McCormick in the November election.
Gov. Holcomb also attended a luncheon in Evansville, where he said he’s seeking a large federal grant to speed-up the I-69 Ohio River Crossing.
The four-lane toll bridge connecting Evansville and Henderson is currently projected to be completed in 2031.
