Officer Michael Eric Dockery stepped down after being accused of using the department's A.I. technology on social media

An Evansville Police officer has resigned after allegedly using the department’s artificial intelligence technology for personal use. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Officer Michael Eric Dockery stepped down from the force after Chief Phil Smith suspended him for 21 days without pay.

Dockery resigned before his case went before the Police Merit Commission.

Chief Smith says Dockery improperly used a facial recognition technology called Clearview A.I.

An audit of Clearview in March indicated Dockery was using the technology on social media images not related to a police investigation.

Chief Smith says Clearview has proven to be a “very useful tool” for developing information. But he says the EPD has put in place guidelines that adhere to the Clearview AI terms of service.

Smith says it’s a tool for official use and is not to be used for personal reasons.

Dockery had served on the EPD for almost five years.
