Indiana Republicans React to Trump Verdicts

8th District Rep. Larry Bucshon and Senator Mike Braun say judicial system was abused

8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon is among Republicans condemning the trial that resulted in 34 guilty verdicts against Former President Donald Trump. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Bucshon called Thursday’s verdicts in a New York courtroom “shocking – but not surprising.”

The Newburgh Republican says “it’s apparent to all but partisan liberals that the decision to prosecute this case against President Trump was nothing more than a gross abuse of the legal system.”

Bucshon claims the trial was an attempt to hurt Trump’s electoral prospects in this year’s presidential contest.

Bucshon notes no one is above the law in the United States, but he says “neither should we allow criminal prosecution against an individual to be normalized as a campaign strategy to achieve a partisan electoral outcome.”

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Mike Braun – who is also running for governor of Indiana – posted on X that the trial was a “blatant abuse of our justice system as a political weapon by a radical prosecutor trying to interfere in the election.”

Braun claimed the verdict proves it was just a “show trial.”

U.S Senator Todd Young has not commented publicly on the verdict.
