HPD: Race Between Cars Ends in Head-On Crash

File

Monday night's crash on Green St. in Henderson sent six people to hospitals

Police say two cars were racing in Henderson, causing a head-on collision that sent six people to hospitals. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

It happened at about 8:15 Monday night on South Green St. near Washington St.

The Henderson Police Department says officers determined a Challenger and a Mustang were racing, when the Mustang swerved in front of the Challenger, causing the Challenger to swerve into oncoming traffic.

It collided head-on with a third car.

Henderson firefighters had to extricate people from both vehicles.

Five of them were taken to Henderson Deaconess Hospital, and one was transported to an Evansville Hospital.

There was no word on their names or conditions.

The HPD says the Mustang was not involved in the crash, but the driver did return to the scene and gave a statement.

There’s no word yet on charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
