The incident blocked traffic on busy Green River Road Thursday morning

A standoff with a man accused of stealing a truck ended when a police K-9 caught the suspect. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

It happened Thursday morning on Green River Road between Vogel Road and Morgan Avenue.

The owner of the truck told police that he held the suspect at gunpoint from outside the truck until police arrived.

Evansville Police shut down traffic in the busy shopping area and a standoff began.

After about an hour, police hurled pepper ball projectiles at the truck, the suspect got out and ran, and a police dog stopped him.

Officers then took the suspect into custody.

The EPD identified him as 35-year-old Shawn Grigsby, who was convicted in 2014 of conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

He was released on parole in October.

Grigsby was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

After the treatment, police were expected to transfer him to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.

Police reopened Green River Road after Grigsby was apprehended.
