Catherine Sowders, 41, of Henderson, and Robert Young, 49, of Evansville face charges

A contract worker at the Vanderburgh County jail is accused of an improper and illegal relationship with an inmate. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The sheriff’s office says 41-year-old Catherine Sowders of Henderson worked in the jail’s kitchen.

The inmate – who also worked in the jail – was identified as 49-year-old Robert Young of Evansville.

The sheriff’s office says both were arrested after detectives investigated an alleged sexual relationship between them, as well as the possibility that Sowders was providing Young with tobacco.

Investigators say the alleged incidents occurred in a work area of the jail.

Sowders was arrested for alleged Sexual Misconduct and Trafficking with an Inmate.

Young was already in custody on felony charges and was expected to face at least one new charge.
