Couple Facing Federal Mail Theft Charges

File

Michael Jerome Wright and Lashea Young of Princeton were arrested earlier this month

A Princeton couple now faces federal charges for allegedly stealing checks worth more than $1 million from mailboxes. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana says 44-year-old Michael Jerome Wright and 35-year-old Cortney Lashea Young have both been charged with mail theft.

Wright faces several more charges: unlawful possession of a mail key, access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, possession of ammunition by a previously convicted felon, and possession of a machinegun.

Young faces one additional charge: possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

Evansville Police arrested Wight and Young earlier this month after an investigation that started last October.

Investigators say checks were stolen after being placed in Post Office mailboxes throughout the city.
