Bicyclist Killed in Nighttime Crash

File

It happened at about 9:30 Thursday night on Diamond Ave.

A bicyclist is dead after a crash on Diamond Avenue. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

It happened Thursday night on Diamond, between Fulton and St. Joe avenues.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says first responders found a damaged bicycle and a person with life-threatening injuries lying in the median.

The sheriff’s office says lifesaving measures were attempted but the bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The coroner’s office hadn’t released the victim’s name as of mid-afternoon Friday.

A preliminary investigation determined a car was eastbound on Diamond over Grove St, when the driver abruptly hit an object in the road.

The sheriff’s office determined it was the bicyclist.

The driver was taken to a hospital for a chemical test in accordance with Indiana law regarding fatal and serious injury crashes.

But the sheriff’s office says alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the crash.
