Jury Acquits Deputy Charged With Rape

File

Jarred Vance Stuckey, 37, was cleared of several charges

A jury has acquitted a Warrick County Sheriff's deputy of rape, sexual battery and other offenses. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Jurors found 37-year-old Jarred Vance Stuckey not guilty on all counts Thursday night.

During Stuckey’s trial, lead defense attorney Bob Zoss repeatedly said the prosecution lacked corroborating evidence and expert testimony.

Vanderburgh County Deputy Prosecutor Susan Wilkie told jurors during her closing arguments that Stuckey had sought to "blame the victim."

The alleged attack happened on the parking lot of a hotel on Evansville’s East Side.

The jury deliberated for several hours before returning the “not guilty” verdict.

The Warrick Sheriff’s Office placed Stuckey on leave after the allegations.

It’s not clear if he will return to the office.
