The city of Evansville is welcoming basketball players, their families, and their fans. As WNIN’s John Gibson reports, the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament tips-off this week at the Ford Center:
The men’s and women’s OVC Championships tip-off Wednesday and conclude Saturday at the Ford Center.
16 teams – eight men’s teams and eight women’s squads -- will battle for an automatic spot in the Division I NCAA Tournament.
USI’s women’s team is the top seed for the OVC Tourney. USI’s men’s team is seeded 8th.
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry notes it’s the seventh year the city has hosted the tourney.
She’s says it’s exciting to again see the first NCAA Tournament ticket punched here in Evansville.
The tourney also brings an economic boost by filling hotels and restaurants.
And an Admissions Fair Thursday afternoon gives local high school students an opportunity to speak with college advisors.
