EPD: The pair is accused of using homeless people to cash fake checks

Evansville Police have arrested two suspects for allegedly operating a checks scam. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

EPD Sgt. Anna Gray says officers arrested Daniel Ravellette last week at a local bank for cashing a fraudulent check.

Ravellette told officers that he’s homeless and two suspects in a white vehicle had recruited him to cash the check.

Gray says detectives were able to identify the suspects but they had left town.

On Friday, detectives learned that the two suspects were back in Evansville.

Officers arrested 25-year-old Kalil Smith and 34-year-old James Thacker on charges of Fraud.

Gray says the investigation of fake checks being passed at local financial institutions began last spring.

She says a number of homeless people got caught up in the check passing and were arrested.

Anyone with more information on the case is asked to contact Evansville Police.
