Strip Bar Shooting Victim Identified

File

Derrick Merrill Dye Jr. died after the shooting outside Ponytails; Zachary Diaz charged with Murder

We now know the name of the man who was shot to death outside an Evansville strip club. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Vanderburgh County Coroner identified the victim as 32-year-old Derrick Merrill Dye Jr.

He was shot outside Ponytails at Columbia and Fares early Sunday morning.

Evansville Police learned that 27-year-old Zachary Diaz approached Dye outside the strip bar.

Police say they began to wrestle and a shot was fired.

Dye was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner’s office says a gunshot wound to the chest killed Dye, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Witness descriptions and surveillance cameras helped lead police to Diaz

Officers arrested him Sunday evening in the 2800 block of Ravenswood Drive.

Officers took Diaz to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center, where he faces a charge of Murder.
