The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has launched a community policing initiative. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Sheriff Noah Robinson says deputies are now assigned to county neighborhoods and subdivisions, allowing residents to have a point of contact in law enforcement.
Robinson says postcards have been mailed to county residents, introducing them to their assigned deputy.
Residents can call or text their deputy through phones provided by T-Mobile, as part of the company’s “Connecting Heroes Program.”
Sheriff Robinson says the phones will also help save time at crime scenes, allowing deputies to upload evidence to the cloud, instead of bringing pictures and audio back to headquarters.
The goal of community policing is to develop better relationships between residents and law enforcement.
