About an inch of snow fell in Evansville followed by another — shorter — cold snap

New snow and colder temperatures arrived in the Tri-State Friday, prompting numerous school closings. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Friday’s snowfall was light in Evansville, but with temperatures well below freezing it made roads slippery.

As of 5:30 a.m., even major roads like the Lloyd Expressway and I-69 were slick and hazardous, not to mention secondary roads and sides streets.

Road crews treated the roadways but not before a number of school systems cancelled classes, including the EVSC, Evansville Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, and Day School.

Schools were also closed in Warrick, Posey, and Gibson counties in Indiana, along with numerous school districts in western Kentucky.

Evansville received about an inch of snow. Areas east and south of the city were expected to see higher amounts.

Numerous accidents and slide-offs were reported Friday morning, including a vehicle that hit a concrete wall along I-69 at Millersburg Road at about 5:30 a.m.

After a cold weekend, temperatures are forecast to rise into the 40’s next week with chances of rain.
