VCSO: The suspect tossed a lighter with meth attached into a recreation yard

An Evansville woman is accused of trying to sneak an illegal drug into the Vanderburgh County jail. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says confinement officers developed information that someone tried to throw narcotics into one of the jail’s ten outdoor recreation yards.

A review of security video revealed that a suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Montana Chandler, approached the north perimeter fence of the Jail and threw an object toward the recreation area.

Investigators say a search of the area turned up a lighter with a clear plastic bag attached by a rubber band.

They say the bag contained a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Chandler’s boyfriend, Nathen Browning, was implicated in the plot to get narcotics into the jail.

Chandler faces a charge of Trafficking with an Inmate.

Sheriff Noah Robinson says such a breach will soon be more difficult to accomplish thanks to security camera upgrades approved by the Vanderburgh County Council.

The upgrades are set to be installed in the New Year.
