Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Fentanyl Death

File

Johntavis Matlock, 31, was convicted in the death of Lindsey Wiley, 28

An Evansville man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for the drug-related death of a Henderson woman. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

A jury convicted 31-year-old Johntavis Matlock of Evansville in September for the death of 28-year-old Lindsey Wiley two years ago.

Matlock was found guilty of distribution of heroin and fentanyl resulting in serious bodily injury.

The cause of Wiley’s death was determined to be an overdose caused by fentanyl intoxication.

Authorities say a probe of Wiley’s cell phone revealed she frequently purchased controlled substances from Matlock.

During the sentencing hearing, evidence was admitted showing that children lived in the residence from which Matlock sold heroin and fentanyl mixtures to Wiley.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Zachary Myers says Wiley’s tragic death highlights what he calls “the tremendous danger posed by trafficking fentanyl and other opioids.”
