Police have arrested an Evansville man accused of fleeing from officers on I-69 last week. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Indiana State Police say troopers arrested 34-year-old Daimion Garrett on Tuesday.
The ISP says Garrett eluded troopers during a pursuit last Thursday that was terminated due to safety reasons after the vehicle entered the city limits of Evansville.
A trooper had clocked Garrett traveling south on the interstate at 93 mph.
The ISP says when the trooper approached the driver, he detected a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle.
He said the driver failed to identify himself and then sped away on I-69 before taking the Covert Avenue exit, disregarding the traffic light at Covert, and continuing west at a high rate of speed.
Police eventually called off the chase on Washington Avenue where they say Garrett was weaving in and out of traffic and driving left of center.
The ISP arrested Garrett Tuesday and took him to the Vanderburgh County jail, where he later posted bond.
Garrett faces charges including resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.
