Confinement Officer Austin Blake Chandler, 25, was booked into the jail on charges of strangulation and battery

Evansville Police have arrested a Vanderburgh County confinement officer for allegedly punching and choking a woman. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Records indicate 25-year-old Austin Blake Chandler was booked into the jail -- where he works -- on preliminary charges of strangulation, domestic battery, and battery committed in the presence of a child.

Chandler is accused of attacking the woman at an East Side apartment complex Sunday morning.

Police responded to the scene when a neighbor reported hearing the victim screaming that she couldn’t breathe and a child crying.

In a statement, Sheriff Noah Robinson says Chandler was immediately placed on unpaid suspension pending a personnel investigation and court disposition.

Chandler was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
