Robert Lutz, 49, of Vanderburgh County died when the ATV he was riding collided with an SUV

Authorities have identified the man who died in the collision of an off-road vehicle and an SUV in western Vanderburgh County. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The coroner’s office says 49-year-old Robert Lutz of Vanderburgh County died at the scene.of Saturday’s crash on New Harmony Road, near St. Joe Road.

The sheriff’s office says when deputies arrived, they found Lutz lying in the roadway, an SUV down an embankment, and a 4-wheeler ATV in a ditch.

The sheriff’s office says a bystander and German Township firefighters attempted CPR on Lutz, but were unsuccessful.

A statement taken from the SUV driver indicated she had been following the ATV, and when it began to slow down she tried to pass on the left.

But she said the ATV unexpectedly turned left towards a dirt pathway and the two vehicles collided.

Sheriff Noah Robinson says both the SUV and the ATV were taken to the agency’s forensics garage for examination.

He says alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash, but an investigation continues.
