EPD Releases Name of Officer in Shooting

File

Sgt. Blake Hollins shot and killed 34-year-old Christina McKinney when she refused to drop what turned out to be a airsoft gun

Evansville Police have released the name of the officer involved in a fatal shooting last week. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

EPD Sgt. Anna Gray identifies the officer as Sgt. Blake Hollins.

Hollins shot and killed 34-year-old Christina McKinney in the 1700 block of S. Evans Ave. after she refused to drop a gun.

The gun turned out to be a non-lethal airsoft – or BB -- gun.

The EPD said Hollins acted properly because the gun looked like a real revolver.

Gray says Hollins has been with the Evansville Police Department for 11 years.

He’s been through crisis intervention training and is a part of the EPD’s Crisis Intervention Team.

Hollins returned to active duty after a three-day administrative leave, which is standard department policy.
