ISP: Woman Drove Wrong Way, Hit Police Car

File

The incident happened Halloween night on U.S. 41 in Knox County

A woman is jailed after allegedly driving the wrong way on Highway 41 and hitting a police car. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Indiana State Police say a trooper was traveling northbound on 41 in Knox County late Halloween night, when he spotted an SUV traveling north in the southbound lanes.

The ISP says the trooper drove across the grassy median, activated his emergency lights, and stopped in the passing lane blocking the path of the wrong-way vehicle.

The driver of the SUV slowed down but hit the front end of the trooper’s patrol car causing minor damage.

The wrong-way driver was identified as 61-year-old Vanessa Gadsden of Vincennes.

Police say Gadsden showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests.

The ISP says a preliminary chemical test revealed she was under the influence of cannabinoids and oxycodone.

A blood sample was also sent to the Indiana Department of Toxicology for further evaluation.

Gadsden was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving and Driving While Intoxicated.
