An Owensboro District Court has been selected for a statewide pilot program based on Kentucky Senate Bill 90, to dismiss criminal charges once the accused have completed a 12-month mental health treatment program.

Samantha Jo Burris, 30, of Mount Vernon received the maximum sentence

A judge has sentenced a Posey County woman to 16 years in prison for the death of baby in her care. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The judge handed down the maximum sentence to 30-year-old Samantha Jo Burris of Mount Vernon.

Burris pleaded guilty to felony child neglect after the 2018 death of 14-month-old Nyla Brantley Gold.

Burris' boyfriend and co-defendant in the case, Richard Kennedy, was sentenced to 30 years in prison earlier this year.

Police said the couple was babysitting Nyla and failed to seek medical care for the child after she suffered a severe head injury.

The toddler died three days later.
