HeartSavers Donates AEDs to Evansville Police

File

The donation came one day after the city council rejected an amendment for more of the devices

One day after the Evansville City Council voted down an amendment to buy more defibrillators for police, a non-profit announced a donation of the life-saving equipment. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

HeartSavers, a program of the Deaconess Foundation, is donating 25 additional automated external defibrillators -- or AEDs.

The group says the equipment will be placed in Evansville Police vehicles that don’t currently have an AED.

HeartSavers notes law enforcement officers are often the first to arrive on the scene of a cardiac emergency making it essential for all police cars to be equipped with an AED.

The group says the devices can increase survival rates of sudden cardiac arrest victims by providing defibrillation as soon as possible.
