The credit union says scammers are claiming to be employees

If you receive a call or a text from a local credit union, it may be a scam. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Heritage Federal says it’s been made aware of a fraudulent scheme where individuals falsely claiming to be with the credit union have been sending messages to area phone numbers.

Heritage says the actors are using its logo and constantly changing the wording in the messages to deceive recipients into providing sensitive banking information.

The credit union urges everyone to remain vigilant and cautious when receiving unsolicited messages or emails requesting personal or financial information.

Heritage says it never requests sensitive information like social security numbers, account credentials, or authentication codes over the phone.

You’re urged to contact Heritage Federal directly if you receive any suspicious communication claiming to be from the credit union.
