Five people have been arrested for allegedly trying to deliver illegal drugs to a man who was standing trial in Owensboro. As WNIN’s John Gibson reports, it apparently wasn’t the first time:
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says court staff became suspicious when food was delivered from outside the court on Thursday.
Officials say the food was intended to go to 34-year-old Harold Sanders Jr., who was standing trial.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies searched the food containers and found suspected narcotics inside.
Authorities say their investigation revealed an inmate at the Daviess County jail placed a takeout order at Dee’s Diner in Owensboro to be picked up by a third party.
They said an employee at the restaurant placed drugs in the container at the request of the inmate.
Authorities say it was not an isolated incident, and employees of the restaurant and inmates were working together to get drugs inside the jail.
The five suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit trafficking in a controlled substance.
The charge was also added against Sanders.
