Sobriety Checkpoint Nets 5 Felony Arrests

File

More than 100 vehicles were stopped on St. Joe Ave. near Buchanan Rd.

Authorities say they made four arrests during the latest sobriety checkpoint in the Evansville area. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership erected the checkpoint late Friday night near the intersection of St. Joe Ave. and Buchanan Road.

Authorities diverted 113 vehicles from northbound St. Joe into the checkpoint.

They made four arrests at the checkpoint including three DUI arrests and one felony arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

Five misdemeanor citations were issued at the checkpoint including four for possession of suspected marijuana and one for driving on a suspended license.

Authorities said several other drivers admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and were taken through standard field sobriety testing.

They said motorists who had not been drinking and were in possession of a valid license were back on the road in less than 90 seconds.
