Sobriety Checkpoint Planned for Friday/Saturday

EPD

Authorities aren't saying where traffic will be stopped

Police say they will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the Evansville area Friday night. But as WNIN’s John Gibson reports, they’re not saying exactly where:

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership will set up the checkpoint Friday night at 10:00 PM.

The agencies say it will last until 2:00 a.m., but as usual they’re not disclosing the location.

They do say the site was chosen based on local traffic data showing a “disproportionately high number of reported hit and run crashes.”

Authorities say impaired drivers are more likely to flee the scene of an accident.

Funding for local sobriety checkpoint operations is provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
