Chasers Bar & Grill in Evansville

The man who survived the 2021 crash alleges the West Side bar over-served the driver

A lawsuit has been filed against a popular Evansville bar. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The suit in Vanderburgh Circuit Court accuses Chaser’s Bar & Grill at 2131 W. Franklin St. of over-serving a patron, leading to a fatal head-on crash.

The suit is on behalf of 34-year-old Joseph Eddmenson who was seriously injured in the crash on St. Joe Avenue that killed 22-year-old Cory Schaum in the early morning hours of July 31st, 2021.

The suit says Schaum was allowed to drink until closing time at Chaser’s despite being visibly intoxicated.

The suit says he should have been cut off and prevented from driving.

Attorney George Barnett says Eddmenson developed permanent drop foot and continues to suffer from traumatic brain-related injuries.

Barnett says the lawsuit seeks punitive damages against Chaser’s and requests a jury trial.

WNIN News has sent an email to Chaser’s seeking comment.
