Jean Holland, accused of killing Kayla Marie Warner, had planned to represent himself

The trial of an Evansville man accused of fatally stabbing a woman has been postponed so the accused could retain a defense attorney. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The trial of 23-year-old Jean Holland was scheduled to begin Monday.

He’s accused of killing 23-year-old Kayla Marie Warner in late 2021 inside her apartment.

Court records indicate a judge postponed the trial to at least September after Holland withdrew his request to represent himself.

Holland faces charges of felony murder, obstruction of justice, and theft.

Evansville police arrested Holland in February 2022, about three months after police found Warner stabbed and unresponsive at her Vann Park Boulevard apartment. She died at the scene.

An attorney conference in Holland's case is scheduled for Sept. 6th.
