Elijah Parchman was found guilty of murder and attempted murder but the verdict was overturned and then reinstated

A man whose guilty verdict for murder and attempted murder was overturned and then reinstated has been sentenced to more than 50 years in prison. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Elijah Parchman was sentenced after a four-year legal battle.

Prosecutor Diana Moers says Parchman was first convicted of the deadly shooting in 2020 but the verdict was overturned by Vanderburgh County Circuit Court.

The court questioned a juvenile delinquency case from 2008.

The prosecution appealed and the Court of Appeals disagreed with the trial court’s decision and sent the case back to Vanderburgh County last December.

Judge David Kiely (KYE-lee) sentenced Parchman Thursday to a total of 51 years.

In a statement, Prosecutor Moers said the defendant’s actions took a life and altered permanently the life of the other victim who was shot in the back. The surviving victim also lost his brother.

Moers thanked their mother for what Moers called “brave testimony in court” during the sentencing hearing.
